Shannon Pennifold

U16 ACE LEDUC YELLOW (ASSISTANT COACH)

Shannon has had a love for volleyball since Grade 6. Don't tell anyone, but her first email address was literally volleyballrulesmyworld. She was chosen by her middle school coach to train as a setter, which is a role she worked hard at for the next many years. Eventually, in Grade 12, she had to admit that her height prevented her from being a strong blocker, so she learned a new position as libero. She played club volleyball in high school, spent most lunch breaks playing pepper in the gym, and did volleyball camp with the Red Deer College every summer. Although she chose to focus on academics in her 8 years of university, she continued to play volleyball on competitive league teams. She continues to play volleyball as a setter on women's and co-ed teams in Edmonton and Leduc. She has coached kids baseball, taught swimming lessons to people of all ages, and desires to combine her love for volleyball and passion for mentorship with her first volleyball coaching opportunity with ACE. As a developmental optometrist, she also has experience with vision training - which involves improving eye-hand coordination, reaction time, peripheral vision awareness, etc. - which will provide a unique perspective to her athletic coaching!
